FAQs
Q:

How does the Jaeger Trumpet compare to other horns like the Bach Strad, Schilke, or Yamaha?

A:

The Jaeger Trumpet is designed to play quite differently to these brands. There are already many copies of them from factories in Europe and China. If you know how the Conn Vintage One (with yellow brass leadpipe and bell) differs from these trumpets, the Jaeger trumpet takes that difference even further.

Q:

Are the Jaeger trumpets available with a tunable bell?

A:

The Jaeger Trumpet is only available with a fixed bell. As part of our experimentation, we have built instruments with removeable lead pipes and bells, and found that we were not able to accurately extrapolate the performance of a fixed instrument from an experimental instrument that was "patched together". There was no mechanical stability, the bell was too free and the center of the note was lost. This same drawback has been found with commercially available tunable bell instruments; several owners of these have subsequently invested in "sound posts" to connect between the bell and the upper tuning slide receiver. As a general rule, we have found that the energy efficiency of instruments and mouthpieces is greatly reduced when extra demountable joints are introduced; like screw on bells and screw rim mouthpieces.

Q:

Is the Jaeger Trumpet Heavy Weight; or Light Weight?

A:

The Jaeger Trumpet is a regular weight horn which feels lighter because the left hand holding position, (center of gravity-valve cluster) is very slightly closer to the player. This makes it less effort (in leverage terms) to hold, in the same way that a cornet feels lighter to hold than a trumpet.

Q:

Why does the Jaeger Trumpet cost less than other horns like the Bach Strad, Schilke, or Yamaha?

A:

We would be very happy to receive such an increased income! The answer is that it does not cost so much money to manufacture a superb trumpet. Trumpets Plus does not have enormous overheads, or a pyramid of selling networks. We can supply direct, and bona fide dealers can source from us to sell at the same price.

Q:

Is there a Jaeger mouthpiece?

A:

Not yet. We are currently working on and testing designs. Until we finalize this we are very happy to recommend either the Giardinelli 3S or 3M, or the Jet Tone 1S or 1M. Most other mouthpieces are too small, they have us playing on the red flesh of our lips. Although we believe the ubiquitous 7C is too small, we supply this size with our instruments because of pressure from band directors.
